A 30-year veteran of the FBI, Gary served as the first ever Chief of the Bureau’s Crisis Negotiation Unit where he led a team of over 350 negotiators in the field. During his tenure, Gary investigated and negotiated some of the most-high profile hostage situations including hijackings, prison riots, militia standoffs, terrorist embassy takeovers, and kidnappings. His book “Stalling for Time, My life as an FBI Hostage Negotiator” served as the framework for the Netflix mini-series Waco. The sequel, American Tragedies: Waco, which Gary is a consulting on, will launch in 2023.
The FBI’s chief hostage negotiator (aka Badass Gary) recounts harrowing standoffs, including the Waco siege with David Koresh and the Branch Davidians, in a memoir that inspired the miniseries Waco, now on Netflix.
